The contactless Legic chip can be used in chip cards, wristbands, tags and key fobs. The data transfer is encoded. The distance between the chip and the card acceptor device can be between 2 and 13cm. The chip is activated when the card comes in the electromagnetic field of a transmitting antenna. For this reason, the Legic chip does not require an energy source of its own.
